Making this delicious vegan dulce de leche recipe at home has never been easier. Made with sweetened condensed oat milk. Creamy, thick and delicious it goes perfectly with ice cream, cheesecakes, apple crisp, and your favorite coffee latte.
Boil the can for 3 hours. Keep an eye on your pot as you’ll need to add water to the pot to keep the can submerged.
Carefully remove the can from hot water and allow to cool before opening. (Do not open the can while still hot; this can cause pressurized hot dulce de leche to spray onto you and burn your skin.)
Open and transfer sauce to a lidded container.
Notes
Instant Pot/Pressure Cooker InstructionsStep 1: Start with one can of unopened vegan sweetened condensed milk.Step 2: Remove the label from your can. Inspect the can to ensure it doesn't have any dents.Step 3: Place can in instant pot and fill the pot with water up to the max fill line. The can should be completely covered with water.Step 4: Lock the lid and set the vent to sealing.Step 5: Set the pressure on high and cook for 35 minutes. It will take about 10 minutes for the instant pot to come up to pressure. Step 6: After the 35 minutes has passed. Let the pot naturally release its pressure. Will take at least 15 minutes. Turn off the pot, allow water to cool. Unlock the lid. Carefully remove the can from hot water and allow to cool before opening.Do not open the can while still hot; this can cause pressurized hot dulce de leche to spray onto you and burn your skin.Step 7: Open and transfer sauce to a lidded container.Cooking Tips
Do not open the can until you've finished the cooking process. The can is acting as a pressure cooker and the water is keeping the temperature constant.
Should the sauce be thin? It’s okay if it is. The sauce will thicken up much more upon cooling, and also upon placing it in the fridge, even if it doesn’t look very thick after removing it from the stove.
