Review
What Does Meati Taste Like?
The texture, is the biggest thing for us to get over. We found it to be spongy and a little chewy but not necessarily tough. It’s fibrous and very soft; just enough that it crumbled a little while cooking.
As far as the taste; well, they definitely have a flavor. It’s a little mushroomy in our opinion but not the good Umami kind of mushroom flavor you get from the stem and cap. We think that mushroom root just has a unique and earthier flavor. And this is all coming from folks who absolutely love mushrooms. We definitely think you need to season them and the sodium content is a little high in our opinion.
Recommendation
There are a lot of plant based meat substitutes in stores right now and this is definitely one of the better value options, especially when you factor in protein and nutrient packed foods. For us it’s not a weekly buy, because we try to keep a good rotation of plant based meat subs in balance with plant based meals from the produce section. Gardein Ultimate Chick’n Filets are our preference when using a replacement for Fried Chicken and Daring Plant Chicken, for plain chicken meals. When it comes to steak substitutes, we love Juicy Marbles. It’s definitely pricey and still only a treat for us, but the taste and texture are perfect. Good but not the best chicken and beef substitute we’ve had.
