Just Eat, made a name for themselves nearly a decade ago with their very popular Just Egg plant-based egg substitute which we use in our vegan Zucchini quiche recipe. Since then, they've been diversifying their product line for years and have finally created a plant-based meat substitute with 18g of protein per serving.

Cooking How They Hold Up
They are very easy to cook, straight out of the bag, frozen to golden in around 10 minutes. We only had to use 2 teaspoons of olive oil and poured the bag directly into the pan, like the directions said. The water and oils in them helped them cook quickly and retain the juiciness. They only stuck a little bit, mostly the crispy crust on top, but they also cooked so fast that they didn't really have time to stick. Keep your eye on them and turn them occasionally in order to get an even browning on each side.
Packaging
They come in boxed and in a freezer safe bag, and can freeze for up to 3 months.
As you get closer to the three month mark be careful to use to avoid them getting freezer burn.
Storage
You can store your Just Meat Plant Based Chicken in the freezer and eat them within 12 months. Keep them refrigerated and cook from frozen straight out of the bag.
Review
We were really curious and a little bit excited when Eat Just announced they were getting into the plant-based chicken game. We have enjoyed the Just food lines since Just Mayo and have made Just Egg a regular breakfast item that is rarely out of stock in our fridge. There are a lot of brands out there making plant-based chicken, but based on the taste and texture of Just Meat plant-based chicken, we think it will quickly rise to the top. Out of the bag, it's pre-cut, and looks like chicken strips. Once cooked it begins to plump up and quickly takes on a golden brown coating.
Taste: Unseasoned, the Just Meat, plant-based chicken has a little natural flavor to it that fills the strips and gives them a subtle and delicate pop.
Texture: They are really moist and fork-tender, with a good layered texture and mouth feel, that's not at all chewy or tough, like some plant based chicken. They cook quickly and have an eye pleasing golden brown crust within minutes.

Recommendation
We'll definitely buy again. They're priced very similar to many of the current plant-based chicken in stores and the taste and texture are good; perfect for an easy and quick dinner. But Swap chicken remains our number one choice but given we have to order from Canada, Just Meat easily slides into our second favorite spot.

This has to be the dumbest name of a company that sells non meat products. I looked at the packaging which is contradictory in how it is written up and simply put it back on the shelf. Why call yourself Just Meat, when you're plant based? Seriously? What person thought that was a good idea? Look online and you'll see all the confusion over this. The consumer should not have to dig for information before they a product. I'll stick with companies that make their products a lot easier to understand. I'll pass on this company permanently.

That's a good question. The way that I understand it after thinking about why the company calls their product line "Just" is that it's not in the way that we would use the word casually in conversation like "I just mean it's about this or that." or "I just saw that on nextflix the other day." but instead they're using it to mean just, as in right or fair. A just food item, meaning a right food item, a fair food item, a just product. In this case a "just" meat. which I guess to their minds is another way of saying a "better" or more "correct" meat. A right kind of meat for the sustainability of the world? Which is a meat alternative. I don't know if this is why they chose the name for sure though. But sign up for our newsletter and come back to the site again and maybe I'll have found an answer from them.

I was about to buy it at H‑E‑B (this is the first time I have seen it), but the “natural chicken flavor” caused me to pause to look it up; that’s how I found your review.
At the time I skimmed through your review and bought the product, I haven’t prepared yet.
I just read your review and find that you say you contacted the company to confirm the flavor is plant based, but you didn’t directly say the company confirmed that. So I am still a little uneasy about it.
Can you please confirm that they actually confirmed (I am inclined to believe they have, would just like to verify).
Thank you for your reviews. I will bookmark your sight and read other reviews and come back again when I have a question about a product.

Thank you

Hello Lenny,
Yes, we can confirm. We reached out to them on 8/12/25, and they replied the same day. That’s the screenshot included in the post.
Please bear in mind that we try our best, but sometimes products are reformulated by the company. So always double‑check the details when you repurchase items.
Thanks,
