Where We Ate
Coffee Shops
Coffee and Plants (VF)
Multiple locations

The best of two worlds caffeine and plants. A calm, plant filled coffee shop that blends good matcha lattes, coffees and plants with a sustainable mission. Coffee & Plants has a partnership with the National Forest Foundation, were they donate one tree for every 100 cups of coffee sold. Their made in house syrups lean more floral and subtle rather than overly sweet. Something we recreated at home with our homemade lavendar syrup. A great stop if you enjoy a calm, not overly crowded environment.
What we ordered: Blue Lavender latte, macadamia nut milk latte and Just Egg tartine. They were actually debuting a new menu our last trip out and we tried an iced strawberry matcha along with old fashion vanilla iced coffee.
The Motoring Club (VF)
Address: 11728 W. Olympic Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90064

The Motoring Club is a coffee shop and members only coworking space that blends coffee with serious visual interest. While there are no dedicated vegan pastries, all espresso drinks, matcha and coffee drinks can be made with a selection of non-dairy milks.
The space is filled with vintage cars including a converted vintage 🛻 Japanese K truck that now functions as a small conference table. Its a comfortable spot to get work done and enjoy a decent cup of coffee in a uniquely styled setting.
What we ordered: Vegan latte and matcha
Cha Cha Matcha (VF)
Multiple locations

Cha Cha Matcha is the go to stop for matcha lovers, offering both hot and iced drinks that can easily be made vegan with non-dairy options: coconut, almond, hemp, macadamia and oat milk. The brand also has locations in New York City which we wrote about in our vegan New York guide.
What we ordered: Iced Matcha latte & Pink Drink - Hibiscus, rose hips, bee pollen and maca.
Vegan Breakfast Options In LA
Kitchen Mouse Cafe (V/GF)
Address: 5904 N. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90042.

Kitchen Mouse is not fully vegan, but it is very vegan friendly, with plenty of clearly marked plant based options. They also offer items that are gluten free too. The cafe and bakery are located just around the corner from each other, giving you two slightly different experiences in the same neighborhood.
After checking out both, we opted for the bakery. It was more relaxed, less crowded, and the menu felt largely similar to the cafe. Parking can be a bit tricky, but this is absolutely worth the effort and makes for a great breakfast or brunch stop. We are still thinking about the tofu turkey on fennel focaccia sandwich and the pastries, especially the danish.
What we ordered: Vegan Pastries, the vegan Pâté Bánh mì with miso walnut & lentil pâté with lime herb mayo and the tofu turkey on fennel focaccia, soo good.
Just What I Kneaded (V/GF)
Address: 2029 Blake Avenue #104, Los Angeles, CA 90039.

They offer a delicious rotating selection of all vegan goodies at this bakery and cafe. Serving breakfast all day, lunch and delicious bakery treats.

Cafe Gratitude (V/GF)
Multiple locations

Cafe Gratitude is a completely vegan restaurant and a longtime staple in the Los Angeles vegan scene. Their menu is built around positive affirmations, so every dish comes with a name that reflects an intention. It feels very California, and honestly, we love it.
Beyond the playful naming, the food is thoughtful, flavorful, and well prepared. The sweet and savory bowls are layered with ingredients like roasted vegetables, grains, and plant based proteins that are satisfying without feeling heavy. They also offer smoothies and teas made with ingredients like matcha and other functional add ins, making it easy to lean into the full LA wellness experience.
What we ordered: I Am Hospitable, which is a waffle, chik'n-fried oyster mushroom, and cashew whipped cream and the beet juice beverage I Am Gifted
Sugarbloom Bakery (VF/GF)

What we ordered: Vegan Sesame Pretzel croissant

The Wild Chive (VF)
Address: 2650 E Broadway, Long Beach, CA 90803.
Note: Open Thursday - Sunday only.

Wildchive started as a popup and opened a brick and mortar location around 2020. Wildchive is definitely a little bit of a drive but worth it. Belmont Pier and Long Branch are nearby . Hence parking and finding a space is a bit of a beast to find. Wildchive has a super cute vibe. The bread is all vegan, thick and perfectly beautiful for their French Toast & BLT's. Unfortunately the bread isn't gluten-free but they do have a gluten-free burrito option too.
What we ordered: We got the rise & shine - double stack of there signature fluffy pancakes served with cheesy soft-scrambled tofu patty, side of bacon, butter & pure maple syrup & coffee with oat milk. The bacon is made from soy and nice and crispy.
Lunch/Dinner
Men & Beasts (VF/GF)
Address: 2100 Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90026

🏃🏽♀️Run don't walk. A Chinese restaurant and tea lounge. I think we saw this on the socials and it was excellent; they deserve all the hype. An experience was had at Men & Beasts. The owners reimagining traditional dishes, focus on delivering unique and exception dishes.
What we ordered: For dinner, start with small plates like the Smashed Cucumber and Monkey Buns filled with char siu style filling. For a main the Black Truffle Fried Rice and for dessert five spice Bao Beignets served with black sesame caramel.

Blink-182's drummer, Travis Barker is co-owner of the high-end vegan Crossroads restaurant. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and brunch on the weekends. They have dine in, takeout and delivery options. They also have a Las Vegas location. Honestly we were fully prepared for this to be a quick dine and dash because what does a drummer know about food. How wrong were we. Tal Ronnen, founder and chef of Crossroads is a fantastic chef. This place is the bomb dot com lol. So good, please go. We've been multiple times now in LA and Vegas and it continues to be a great experience.

Multiple locations

Jinya is a national ramen chain with a dedicated vegan menu. They offer plant based ramen, buns, and appetizers, making it easy to order without guessing or modifying.
The ramen is consistently solid. Their sesame based broth creates a rich, creamy texture that feels indulgent without being heavy. We first tried Jinya in Atlanta, have also visited the Charlotte location, and now LA, and we have not been disappointed yet. It is a dependable choice when you are craving a comforting bowl of vegan ramen.
What we ordered: Spicy Creamy Vegan Ramen

Mr. Charlie's (V)
Address: 612 N. LaBrea Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90036.

A veganized McDonalds experience minus the milkshake's. Mr. Charlie's is definitely an Instagram worth spot. If McDonalds was vegan is the concept behind this. The menu is like what you expect meals, single burger, nuggets and fries Its a pickup and delivery establishment no dine in option. Takeout & a few small tables in front of the restaurant. We've taken non-vegan friends and they actually liked it better than McDonalds.
What we ordered: We tried the Frowny meal the definitely the most popular item. We got a Frowny Meal Not A hamburger Meal at $15.99 plus tax its a burger with 4 nuggets , fries and a drink. Its pull at the nostalgia a heart strings but honestly Monty's and Hart House are better and cheaper.

A full fledged sports bar; but make it vegan. While they do have a few non-vegan selections; 75% of the menu is plant-based. Everything from vegan wings to burgers and of course good strong drinks while the game is on. Open late in downtown LA this is worth a ride.

Where We Stayed

Location - Hawthorne, California (a 30 minute drive from Downtown Los Angeles and ten minutes from the airport.)
Nightly Rates: under $150 a night.
Hotel prices are pretty steep for a week's stay in LA so we opted for an Airbnb. We rent a small private bungalow with full bathroom and kitchen.
Our criteria for selecting a rental are as follows.
We look for superhosts (people who Airbnb have identified as providing outstanding hospitality with at least a 4.8 rating), are labeled Airbnb Plus (a curated collection of Airbnbs that have been chosen for their exceptional design and great hospitality). There is also Airbnb Luxe which is similar but instead focuses on the most luxury Airbnb offerings. And lastly they have over 200 reviews (reading the reviews can give you a good idea of the quality and feel of a place).
In our mind that means they have been vetted and shouldn't be a fluke in quality, service and safety.
Should You Rent A Car
Absolutely, you should rent a car. Driving is the best option for getting around LA. There is public transit and of course Uber and Lyft, but Los Angeles is very spread out and without a car you would spend a lot of time in transit. Be careful when it rains. Roads are really designed and pot holes pop up after a heavy rain. We hit a pothole in Beverly Hills after a heavy rain last trip and had a blow out. Remember check you maps there are tolls in LA and make sure your not parked on the city sweeper side of the street; don't be like us and get mailed a ticket.
Things To Do
Disneyland

Disneyland in Anaheim, California not to be confused with Disney World in Orlando, Florida.
A one day pass cost $83.00 and should be bought well in advance of your arrival. They have great vegan options in the park.
Hollywood Sign

You can see the 100 year old sign without hiking to see it. The three easiest locations to see the sign without a hike are:
- At the Hollywood Sign Vista Point (Lake Hollywood) park.
- W. 4th St & S. Windsor Blvd where you can frame the Hollywood Sign between two rows of palm trees.
- And at Griffith Observatory.

I saw on another post you’ve got Portland on your radar and you’ll definitely love it - it’s my hometown and what someone said a decade or so ago, it’s “the home of the fat vegan” there’s so many options. We live north of Seattle now and it doesn’t compare to Portland, not even close, plus PDX is way easier to get around by bike or transit than Portland when visiting (that being said Seattle does have a better mayor as of this week!). Harlow is still my favorite even though there’s a zillion options out there. Have fun!!!!
