What Are WunderEggs?
A substitute.
We first heard about this new product in VegNews and were excited; there are lots of liquid egg products on the market like Just Egg but none that mimic a boiled egg.
We were anxious to know if it would live up to the hype. Could we finally make a vegan Cobb salad with eggs or even a potato salad? Would it really taste like an egg?

Review
What Does WunderEggs Taste Like?
These “eggs” look just like a real chicken egg but without having to peel a shell off. The texture is also pretty much the same as a real egg.
The taste without the seasoning packet:
The egg white, has a hint of almond but has the texture of a hard boiled egg.
The yolk, has a noticeable but not overwhelming flavor of turmeric. The texture is really close to a hard boiled egg yolk and only slightly grainy.
Combined, it has the over all mouthfeel of a hard boiled egg.
The taste with the Black Salt packet:
With the black salt it definitely tastes more like a real boiled egg but there's still a slight aftertaste of turmeric coming from the yolk.
Recommendation
Depending on your dietary needs. Really the only drawback is the Black Salt. In our opinion this is really needed. And if your watching your sodium intake this could an issue for you. It’s pricey at $7.99 for what equals three vegan boiled eggs but we would definitely buy again; mostly under the category of a splurge.

Whole Foods seems to have already stopped carrying this.

Hello and apologies for the delay. Took me a sec to get back to Whole Foods. But great news. They had WunderEggs restocked. Could have been a supply chain issue. You can also order online at their website too. Hope that helps 😊
Lovely
Thank you for this review. I tried these eggs and wanted to get an idea of what someone else thought. You put into words how I was feeling. It does taste good, but it definitely has an after taste. Making them into deviled eggs helps a lot, but still slightly there. I only purchased this b/c it had a coupon with it at my co-op for 1.50 off.

Good for cold snacks, but no vegan egg curry with these. They melt when you heat them up!
Shad Wright
oh no! it melted when heated? I guess it has to be served on the side at room temperature.

Is the yolk really wet or could you mix it with mustard and mayo to devil them?
Shad Wright
yep! you can totally make deviled eggs with the yolk. we made some. here's the link to the recipe. tell us how it turns out.
