Why This Recipe Works?
- Made with canned navy beans (no soaking required). Because no one wants a hot stove on in the middle of summer.
- Requires only 5 minutes of active time.
- We love making a double batch and enjoying the next morning in a proper vegan English Breakfast. So good. Thank us later.
Ingredients
- Navy Beans - we used canned beans to keep this recipe simple and quick.
- Ketchup
- Brown Sugar - create the sweetness in these homemade baked beans recipe.
- Vegan Worcestershire Sauce - this item is definitely a must to get the deep smoky flavor. Most Worcestershire sauce brands are not vegan-friendly because they contain anchovies. Here are a few brands that make vegan varieties: Simple Truth (Kroger) brand, Whole Foods 365 and Annie’s organic.
- Blackstrap Molasses - is a thick syrup that people use as a sweetener. It is a byproduct of the sugar-making process, and it comes from crushed sugar cane or sugar beets. Molasses has a warm, sweet, somewhat smoky flavor and is used in Boston-styled baked beans too.
- Mustard Powder
This recipe has all the rich, deep and savory flavor you except from baked minus tomato paste, apple cider vinegar or liquid smoke. The molasses, mustard powder and vegan Worcestershire sauce give you all the flavor you’ll need.
See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and measurements.
If You’re Out Of Molasses
Molasses also known as black treacle is a viscous substance resulting from refining sugarcane or sugar beets into sugar. If you can’t find it or are out; in a pinch you can substitute with ¼ cup maple syrup or 3 tablespoons brown sugar.

These are my favorite vegan baked beans! I make them often. I have tried so many recipes using dried beans for oven, instant pot, AND slow cooker and the beans never get soft enough!
